Tips for a Successful Large Extended Family Session

Tips

You booked an extended large family session and are wondering where to start or how it works? This is for you! Below are the main tips I have for making the session run smoothly and also making sure you all get exactly what you want.

Choosing a Location

Choose a location that fits the style you are going for! Try to be mindful of the time of day because it can impact the sun and where you will need to face for your session. If you need location ideas, this is a perfect opportunity to use our client location list!

Select Outfits and Colors in Advance

The coordination of colors and outfits that compliment each other, without being too matchy matchy, will take your family photos to another level. It will look more classy and cohesive together, which in turn makes the photos better for the eye. Below are some color pallets I personally LOVE. Make sure you are comfortable and feel confident, as that is the goal!

What to Expect

Prepare your family for groupings and an order so each family knows when they can anticipate their turn will be. Below is an example of what your family can put together so we make sure nothing is missed that you want! This can be in a notes app and sent to NV Photography before the session, it helps it run more seamless as we know exactly what to expect!

Example Photo List:

  • Henderson Family (prefers by fireplace) – Group, mom & dad each individually with kids, kids together, kids individually, Grandparents with kids
  • Miller Family (prefers outside) – Group, mom & dad each individually with kids, kids together, kids individually, Grandparents with kids
